Common Settings

1. Forward Audio from the Controlled Host to the Current Computer

  1. Open the KVM Web management interface and click the icon at the bottom-right corner of the page.

  2. Enable the UVC (USB Audio Card) function.

After enabling this feature, the audio from the controlled host will be transmitted to your current computer via USB audio.

2. Switching Between DHCP and Static IP

  1. Open the PicoKVM management interface and navigate to Settings → Network.

  2. Select the desired network mode:
    • DHCP: Automatically obtain an IP address
    • Static IP: Manually configure a fixed IP address

After saving, the new network configuration will take effect immediately.

3. Web Login Password Reset

  1. SSH service is always enabled by default,If you forget the web login password, you can reset it by logging in via SSH and deleting the following configuration file:
    /userdata/kvm_config.json
    TIP

    Default username: root
    Default password: luckfox
    After deleting the file and rebooting the device, the system will restore the default configuration.

4. USB Device Emulation

PicoKVM connects to the controlled host over USB and emulates devices such as a keyboard, mouse, and mass-storage device. In the advanced configuration, you can control whether the USB mass-storage device appears when no virtual media is mounted, or change the device information exposed through the USB descriptors.

4.1 Hide USB Mass Storage When No Media Is Mounted

  1. Log in to the PicoKVM Web management interface and go to Settings → Advanced.

  2. Under Edit Configuration, click Edit.

  3. In the usb_devices section of the configuration, find:

    "mass_storage": true
  4. Change it to:

    "mass_storage": false
  5. Click Save. Return to the Advanced page, then click Reinitialize USB Gadget to reinitialize the USB devices.

  6. If the change does not take effect immediately, reconnect the USB cable between PicoKVM and the controlled host, or restart PicoKVM.

After this change, the PicoKVM USB mass-storage device no longer appears in the controlled host's Device Manager when no image or file is mounted.

Virtual Media remains available

Setting mass_storage to false does not disable the virtual disk function. You can still mount images or files through Virtual Media; after media is mounted, the controlled host can detect and use the virtual disk normally. Other USB functions, such as the virtual keyboard and mouse, are also unaffected.

4.2 Change the USB Device Display Names

When PicoKVM connects to the controlled host, the host reads the USB descriptors and displays the manufacturer and product names they contain.

  1. In the Edit Configuration window, locate the usb_config section:

    "usb_config": {
    "vendor_id": "0x1d6b",
    "product_id": "0x0104",
    "serial_number": "a5e7ef7644349e8d",
    "manufacturer": "KVM",
    "product": "USB Emulation Device"
    }
  2. Modify the required fields:

    FieldDescription
    vendor_idUSB vendor ID (VID)
    product_idUSB product ID (PID)
    serial_numberUSB device serial number used to distinguish devices
    manufacturerUSB manufacturer name displayed by the host
    productUSB product name displayed by the host
  3. If you only need to change the displayed names, normally only manufacturer and product need to be modified. For example:

    "manufacturer": "Luckfox",
    "product": "PicoKVM"

  4. Save the configuration and click Reinitialize USB Gadget, then reconnect the USB cable so that the controlled host detects the device again.

Keep the JSON syntax valid

Do not remove required quotation marks, commas, or braces. Invalid JSON may prevent the configuration from being saved or cause some system functions to behave unexpectedly.

Device name does not update in Windows

Windows may cache information about previously detected USB devices. If the name does not update after reinitializing the USB gadget and reconnecting the cable, uninstall the old device in Device Manager and scan for hardware changes.
